An industrial engineering degree is an extremely important skill in the world of industrial design.
In a recent interview with Engadgets, a designer from Germany who goes by the handle of kimberly, described his background in industrial design and why he decided to pursue a career in industrial engineering.
In the interview, she explains why she chose a college education for her first career and what she thinks about the future of industrial engineering as a career.
“I don’t like it,” she says.
“I hate the idea of having to have a degree in engineering and it doesn’t suit me.”
Kimmerly started designing a mobile app in 2013.
The app, called ‘Scheduled’ was a “simple, easy-to-use scheduling app” that let users set their own time.
“The idea was that you would only have to create the app once and it would work just fine,” she said.
“It was just a fun thing to design.”
In 2017, the app got a big boost when the company bought out a startup called Wix for $1.7 billion.
The acquisition allowed Kimberly to start building an industrial design team, which she named ‘Future Engineering’.
“We wanted to be able to design things like robots that could walk on the ground, cars that could move on water, cars with cameras and other things,” she told Engadges.
“We wanted our products to be more than just a novelty.”
Future Engineering’s first product, a self-driving car, was released in 2019.
But the company’s ambitions quickly expanded, expanding to include “things like drones that can carry people.”
“We have this idea of building robots that can fly and that can be autonomous, but we also want to build things that can actually be used,” she continued.
“The technology is really good, and we can do it on a large scale, but it takes a lot of expertise and engineering.”
Kimberly’s ambitions grew even more when she was invited to a talk by Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook in January 2020.
The billionaire Facebook cofounder and CEO made an emotional speech to the audience, in which he discussed the potential for the future to be powered by artificial intelligence.
“You can’t be human if you don’t understand AI,” he said.
“If you can’t understand this, you’re a human who can’t make things.
That’s why we need AI, so that we can make these things.”
It was a message that resonated with Kimberlicious.
In January 2020, Kimberlys first startup was born.
She told Engage that the company was still in its infancy, but was already looking forward to building a business.
“We started off just making the app,” she explained.
“But now we’re working on an industrial robot.”
The robot is the first product that Future Engineering plans to release.
It will be a mobile device that uses an app to automatically create and deliver products.
The robot will be made of wood, but will also include a “microprocessor” that will help the robot operate its robotic arms and create and receive orders.
The robot’s robotic arm will work with the robot’s sensors to make decisions about how to deliver the product.
Kimberlicous’ goal is to eventually make robots that are able to perform all the tasks a human can do, including delivering goods.
The company hopes to be one of the first robotic delivery companies in the US.
“This will be the future, it’s going to be the first robot that is able to deliver all the goods you can deliver,” she stated.
Kimmerly hopes that Future Engineers robotic delivery will allow her to make a living at the company.
“My goal is not to make enough money,” she admitted.
“My goal now is to make something good.
I want to make this company.”
