Business Insider is reporting that the next-generation version of Unreal Engine 4 is going to be the first game engine to run on the Raspberry Pi.
According to a report from the BBC, the company behind the game engine, Team Shanghai Alice, have created a version of the engine that runs on the “Raspberry Pi 3, with its GPU set to Nvidia’s Tegra K1”.
The report also says that the Raspberry Pis will be used in the development of a next-gen game engine called “Vulkan”.
It’s not clear what the engine will look like, but according to the BBC’s source, “it is likely to be an incremental improvement over the current engine”.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement by Valve that the company would be working with “the world’s biggest video game developers to make SteamVR, its upcoming virtual reality platform for PCs, a reality.”
This news comes just weeks after Valve released a beta version of SteamVR on the Steam Machine platform, a machine which is already being used in VR games.
The Raspberry Pi is also being used to make gaming consoles and computers, with Valve’s latest batch of consoles including the Xbox One S and PlayStation 4 Pro.
